Runde island
Runde Island is the southern most bird cliff
in Norway. The island is located in a highly productive area.
The main spawning grounds for many of the most important fish
populations in The North East Atlantic are found off Runde.

The area around Runde includes many important and diversified
environments, such as areas of shallow waters, deep fjords
and the continental shelf. The edge of the continental slope
is located about 50 km west of Runde and goes down to depths
of 3000 metres.

The area is the main spawning location for Norwegian herring
and saith, and is also among the most important spawning-
and nursery grounds for haddock and cod. Eggs and larvae drift
from the spawning grounds west of Runde to the nursery grounds
in the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea
